Statement on Pacific Geopolitical Developments

The Kingdom of Boralani notes the statement issued by the Pacific Elders Voice group regarding current geopolitical tensions in the Pacific.
According to the RNZ report, the group of former Pacific leaders warns that Pacific Island countries are at a crossroads. Key factors include China’s recent test of a nuclear-capable missile in the South Pacific and Australia’s ongoing efforts to sign security treaties with regional nations. The Elders highlight concerns over increasing militarisation, the proliferation of security initiatives, and the risk that larger powers are reframing Pacific vulnerabilities — such as climate change, economic dependence, and geographic isolation — as opportunities for external influence.
Former Kiribati President Anote Tong, chairman of the Pacific Elders Voice, emphasised that the primary security priority for Pacific Islands countries remains climate change. He stressed the need to maintain focus through the Pacific Islands Forum as the central regional body and to avoid parallel institutions that could weaken Pacific authority and sovereignty.
The statement calls for Pacific nations to act together as equals through transparent and accountable institutions aligned with shared regional priorities.
Boralani’s Position
The Kingdom of Boralani supports a Pacific-led approach to regional security and cooperation. We view the Pacific Islands Forum as the primary mechanism for coordination and align with the call to keep climate change and ocean stewardship as core priorities. Boralani continues to advance practical measures under the Boralani 2050 framework, including renewable energy development and sustainable resource management, while engaging with partners on the basis of respect for sovereignty and mutual benefit.
